Gold Coast has nine skyscrapers as of today. These high-rise buildings are at least 150 meters tall and areeither promoted as hotels, residential buildings, or commercial towers. One example is the Q1 Resort and Spa, which holds the record as Australia’s tallest building with a height of 321 meters. Meanwhile, there are other developments in the pipeline. The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat said there are twenty-two similar projects that are up for construction. These include the 48-level Wanda Ridong Hotel and the 89-storey Spirit 89 apartment complex.
It will take a decade to finish the The Orion Tower project. In terms of height, it will eclipse Q1 but, it will be unable to claim the title as Gold Coast’s tallest building. The 104-storey Imperial City Tower 1 at Southport will claim this title because it will be 335 meters high once it is completed by 2019. In terms of the tallest building that is still in the pipeline, the number one project on the list is the 381-meter structure, which will be constructed in Sydney. Once these projects are finished, GoldCoastwill be home to three of the four tallest buildings in the country. It will also help GoldCoast retain its title as one of the best Australian metros that is ideal for the development of high-rise buildings.
