WOOFY!

May 10, 2011  |  by Greenhouse  |  brands, new arrivals  |  No Comments

Woofy is a relatively new addition to the Greenhouse and a great conversation point of what Woofy actually is. Many people often ask “What does Woofy do?” or “Is that just a dog statue?”. Woofy is no ordinary dog he tidily stows away your electrical cords inside of him, rather than having all your cords laying around Woofy acts as a case.

Recently one of the Greenhouse staff was told about Woofy’s blog by a customer and a fellow fan of Woofy. It’s so wonderful when designers have a little fun with their products. Woofy not only conceals messy cords, Woofy travels the world!

Rock that Glass

May 6, 2011  |  by Greenhouse  |  brands, design, kitchen  |  No Comments

Illustrating another curious inspiration journey the Norman Copenhagen Rocking Glass, designed by Britt Bonnesen, is a wonderful twist of the tumbler norm. Used to serve cocktails, desserts, coffees, snacks or simply as a decoration with flowers, the rocking glass is uniquely designed with a curved bottom enabling it to rock without falling! Unlike Charlotte Perriand’s photographs, Britt Bonnesen’s creative process was admirably inspired by an old movie about aircraft! Bonnesen devised the idea of the Rocking Glass from the tableware, and in particular the glasses that were created to not spill from the vibrations of the airplanes! The rocking movements make the glass a fun, memorable piece, a delightful creative idea and a loved product at the Greenhouse! It was so loved that we recently sold out, fortunately the Rocking Glass will be coming again soon!

Little characters from the ceiling

April 9, 2011  |  by Greenhouse  |  brands  |  No Comments

Denmark’s Flensted handmade mobiles are the epitomy of cute!

A family owned business Flensted products originate from the Danish Island of Funen where all the original designs are constructed in Frederiksminde a previous school house. Son Ole Flensted has continued his father Christian Flensted’s creation and the adorable mobile designs keep on coming. Far from mainstream all Flensted designs are entirely inspired by Flensted, they even refused offers from Disney and IKEA! In Ole’s own words “A good mobile should last 50 years” .

Calming to the eye a mobile brings colour and character to a once plain ceiling. Not only beautiful for children the right mobile can compliment any modern home and will never stay completely still. Ole Flensted describes such movement, “A good mobile can continue in motion for 10 minutes after a cat has exhaled nearby”.

Who’s up for indoor/outdoor dining this summer!

October 28, 2010  |  by Greenhouse  |  bestsellers, brands, design, gifts, outdoor  |  No Comments

There is nothing better than Spring/Summer indoor and outdoor dining. You can relax outside and enjoy a meal as the sun sets. We at the Greenhouse think there is nothing better than eating outdoors (instyle) so these are some of our suggestions for this summer!

French Bull Melamine: Jackie Shapiro’s stunning patterns applied to melamine plates lead the way for the melamine tableware revival and continues to make French Bull a household name. The entire range has high heat resistance, is dishwasher safe, light weight and child friendly. Available in fun, fresh and bold patterns. The ideal accompaniment to the Australian and NZ outdoor lifestyle and informal dining. We are loving the MULTIPLAID salad servers, plates and round platters for outdoor dining.

Eva Solo Outdoor items: Eva Solo was formed by the creative duo Henrik Holbaek and Claus Jensen. Individually, Holbaek and Jensen have their own long lists of personal design feats and awards, and so together they have created an internationally award winning design company. Each piece that Eva Solo designs seeks to find the perfect balance between appearance and functionality. We are loving the Eva Solo Bird Feeder, a must for outdoors all year round and the Eva Solo BBQ tools- they are stylist and useless!

V & A: William Morris had it right: ‘… Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful’. Ha! Girls these are for you, feel sexy and stylish while doing odd jobs around the house and gardening- who said handy work was a mans job! Not V & A thats for sure!

Well hopefully this has made you a little more excited to get outside- if your looking for me, you know where to find me! On the deck getting a tan!

Enjoy

Dreamfarm- just the most amazing ideas

June 16, 2010  |  by Greenhouse  |  brands  |  No Comments

Have you ever wondered how people used to reheat food before the microwave oven was invented? What did we put our rubbish in before garbage bags came around? What did people use to wash their dishes before liquid soap? Was there really a time when we cleaned our homes without a vacuum cleaner? Or made breakfast without an electric toaster?

Dreamfarm was born because they wanted to be a part of the exciting advances that are going to make our grandchildren wonder the very same things about the way we live now. We know it’s never going to be enough to just change the shape or handle of an existing design or make something out of silicone instead of plastic. We have to use original ideas to create products that are more than just new, we have to grow clever ideas into inventions that are truly useful.

When you enjoy a Dreamfarm invention they see your support as a challenge for them to go further – to create something better, something more useful and something that makes them wonder how we ever lived without it. It’s an exciting challenge which they gladly accept and  thank you for joining them for the ride.
